MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Azkals team coach Hans Michael Weiss said he will prepare his boys for the harshest weather conditions they can expect against Mongolia.
The Azkals arrived in Japan on Monday night for their cold-weather training in Gotemba, some 174 kilometers from Tokyo.
“We're going to squeeze the players out,” Weiss said before the Azkals departed for Japan.
The Azkals will play against Mongolia in Ulan Bator under freezing weather on March 15.
The Filipinos will need at least a draw against the Mongolian Blue Wolves to advance to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Challenge Cup group stage.
The Azkals defeated the Mongolians at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod, 2-0, last month.
“They have to keep their best because we will face very harsh and strong conditions over there [in Ulan Bator],” said Weiss.
