Unabia, Morallo join nat’l pool

LEMUEL Unabia and Jake Morallo, who are part of the Ceres-Negros Team that captured the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Suzuki U23 National Cup last May 10, 2011 at the Panaad Park and Stadium, are already in the training camp of the National U23 Football Team in Manila.

This was confirmed yesterday by PFF U23 team coordinator Jojie Ronda, saying that both these players have already started their training for a month now.

However, Ronda said that several players they have invited from the Ceres team have not arrived. They are Joshua Beloya, Aldrin Dolino, Joven Bedic, Jurex Replentes, Gino Palomo Jimmy Malaloan and Camelo Tacusalme.

“They will have to be here before August 17, as the training together with the Azkals starts on August 24. Coach Hans Michael Weiss returns next week,” Ronda said.

On his part, Ceres-Negros Team head coach Norman Fegidero has yet to respond on the issue as he was still in Iloilo for the PFF-Smart Club Championship as of press time.

Ronda said that among those Azklals who are already in the short list are keepers Neil Etheridge and Paolo Pascual, Jason de Jong, Manuel Ott, Patrick Hinrichsen, Simon Greatwich and Mark Drinkuth.

Meanwhile, keeper Pascual has suited up for the Global-Teknika FC while another U23 prospect David Franz Fornea plays for Smart-San Beda FC in the ongoing PFF-Smart Club Championship.

Ronda stressed that the complete 22-man U23 national team to compete in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia this November will be announced late this month. (Jerome S. Galunan Jr.)
